Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB) eminent persons advisory committee
formed to spearhead resource mobilization in bid to fight Covid-19 now appeals
to the national government to set up a testing centre in Kisii.
The Committee met in Kisii and Siaya Counties yesterday to Engage with the
Governors on covid-19 control measures as well as sharing experiences, gaps
and lessons learnt to identify areas to major on when they finally get to
mobilize resources.
On their tour of Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH), they decried the
expenses that are incurred by the county to transport test samples to Kisumu
on a daily basis.
KTRH stands to be the largest hospital that serves Southern Nyanza and
therefore there was an urgent need to upgrade the testing equipment for
efficiency during this second wave of Covid-19 pandemic.
Speaking during the occasion, Kisii Governor, James Ongwae challenged the
member Counties to come together and generate a concerted effort to help
create a solution for the second wave of the pandemic that is razing down to
the communities.
Ongwae assured that as LREB counties they are going to steer up the creation
of public awareness with help of the Chiefs, Assistant Chiefs and the Miji Kumi
group to help sensitize the public to mitigate spread in the communities that
has now taken course in many of the counties in the country.
“The disease is real and we should protect ourselves by observing the set out
guidelines. Even with the vaccine, if we don’t change our behavior, it will not
work properly” added Governor Ongwae.
